Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking an engineer to contribute to P&C design, protection settings, and substation projects. The role focuses on relay protection, engineering studies, and collaboration with transmission customers and contractors.

Entry to senior levels are available with ABET accreditation and PE licensure encouraged. The work is on-site at multiple locations in OK/TX with a strong emphasis on safety and standards compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from ABET-accredited program; FE exam encouraged.
• PE license is encouraged and preferred.
• Typical entry level advancement with increasing education and certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform and review relay protection and control activities for 4kV through 765kV substations.
• Prepare and review P&C scopes for substation projects.
• Model transmission system impedances and perform short circuit fault studies.
• Review PRC-023, FAC-008 and other NERC-related documents.
• Coordinate with customers, contractors and regulatory bodies on protection issues.
• Provide engineering support for installation, commissioning and troubleshooting.
