Job summary

National Grid seeks a Senior Engineer in DC&I Engineering for its Northboro, MA team. You will lead OT networking and communications for grid‑edge devices, guiding design, deployment and security across DERMS, FLISR, VVO and related applications.

You will collaborate with IT and cybersecurity, mentor engineers, and help set technical standards while supporting ESMP‑driven grid modernization initiatives. This is a senior, influential role with travel flexibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 6+ years of relevant experience in distribution automation, OT networking, or control system communications in utility environments.
• Strong hands‑on experience with IP‑based networking in OT environments (routing, switching, VLANs, subnetting).
• Working knowledge of SCADA, ADMS, DERMS, FLISR, VVO, or similar grid applications.
• Understanding of OT cybersecurity principles (defense‑in‑depth, segmentation, access control, monitoring).
• Ability to translate requirements into robust network designs and interpret diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Lead OT network engineering and communications architecture for grid‑edge devices outside substations.
• Design and support IP‑based networks linking field devices to control centers and enterprise systems.
• Own and influence field area and wide‑area communications using private LTE, carrier Ethernet, MPLS and SD‑WAN.
• Support deployment and operation of DERMS, FLISR, VVO, CVR and other grid modernization applications.
• Apply TCP/IP networking expertise to ensure resilient, scalable OT communications.
• Collaborate with IT, telecom, and cybersecurity to design secure OT networks.
