Job summary

UPMC Somerset is seeking Surgical Technologists at all levels to support our operating room team in a fast-paced hospital setting. You will prepare sterile fields, pass instruments, ensure equipment readiness, and assist with specimens and patient safety during each case.

This casual, as-needed role has a minimum commitment of 16 hours per six-week period and requires weekend/holiday call coverage. Starting pay varies by level, with the Senior rate shown.

Qualifications

• Must be certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent.
• New graduates or experienced technologists welcome.
• Strong communication and teamwork in fast-paced OR settings.

Responsibilities

• Prepare sterile fields, pass instruments, and maintain asepsis during procedures.
• Assist surgeons by handling instruments, retractors, sutures, and supplies as directed.
• Assist in OR setup, equipment checks, specimen handling, and post-op turnover.
• Coordinate daily supervision of technicians and support educational activities for staff.
• Ensure patient safety, proper labeling of medications, and compliance with policies.
