Job summary

UPMC Passavant is seeking a Lead Surgical Technologist for weekend coverage in the Operating Room. This on-site, full-time role supports surgeons and the perioperative team across multiple specialties while mentoring staff and driving operational excellence.

You will maintain sterile fields, anticipate surgeon needs, and coordinate equipment and supplies for complex procedures. Leadership and collaboration are essential to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program (or military equivalent).
• Minimum 4 years of current Operating Room experience.
• Advanced knowledge and experience in at least three surgical specialties.
• 24/7 specialty accountability in one or more listed areas: Cardiac Surgery, Neurosurgery, Thoracic/Lung Transplant, Liver or Kidney Transplant, Trauma Surgery.
• CST or TSC certification required; BLS/CPR within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sterile fields, instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and provide expert intraoperative support.
• Assist with complex procedures in at least three surgical specialties.
• Coordinate instrumentation, equipment, and specialty supplies.
• Serve as a lead resource for Surgical Technologists and perioperative staff.
• Precept and mentor new employees and students.
• Monitor inventory, support equipment maintenance, and assist with specialty service operations.
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to promote patient outcomes.
• Identify process improvement opportunities and support operational excellence.

Weekend positions enjoy full time benefits while working 24 hours/week and an additional 20% on top of their base pay!!

Shifts: Every Saturday and Sunday 7a-7:30p

• Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team collaboration skills.

Certifications & Clearances

• CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) or TSC (Tech in Surgery-Certified) required.
• BLS or CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.

• Act 73 FBI Clearance
