Job summary

AMETEK, Inc. in Denville, NJ is seeking a Sr. Optics Technician to set up and operate CNC optical manufacturing equipment and fabricate high-precision components.

You will interpret optical and mechanical metrology, align to the optical axis, and contribute to process improvements. Diamond turning is a plus, but not required. The role requires a high school diploma with 7+ years in precision optics, strong hands-on CNC skills, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds with safety and quality in mind.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 7+ years in precision optical manufacturing or CNC machining.
• Hands-on CNC optical equipment setup, operation, and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience interpreting optical/mechanical drawings and metrology data with tight tolerances.
• Experience with optical metrology equipment such as interferometers or profilometers.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance and maintain safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Set up and perform optical fabrication steps including grinding, polishing, and centering.
• Manufacture spherical and plano components to tight dimensional and surface specs.
• Operate and troubleshoot CNC optical turning and precision turning equipment.
• Align components to the optical axis and machine critical features accordingly.
• Interpret drawings and data from interferometers and metrology instruments.
• Maintain equipment, safe practices, and collaborate across departments.
• Develop tooling, setups, and work instructions; improve safety, quality and yield.
• Train opticians and technicians as alignment turning capability grows.
