Job summary

L3Harris Technologies in Wilmington, MA seeks an Optical Engineer Senior Specialist to lead design and analysis of space optical systems, including imaging and radiometric performance, and stray light mitigation.

You will work on UV to LWIR imaging, multi-mirror and free-form optics, collaborate across disciplines, perform tolerancing, and contribute to program reviews while progressing toward an active security clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in optics or related field and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience.
• Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Responsibilities

• Participate in optical system design trade studies and evaluate and recommend optical materials, components, and vendors.
• Perform detailed image quality analyses, including wavefront error, MTF, ensquared energy, distortion, color correction, and resolution.
• Perform optical component tolerancing and sensitivity analysis.
• Support as-fabricated hardware component re-optimization to maximize system performance attributes.
• Conduct initial stray light and ghost analysis, proposing corrective actions to suppress stray light artifacts.
• Document detailed optical design specifications and tolerances.
• Support program design review cycles in consultation with system and mechanical design personnel.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team setting.
• Provide regular updates to program leadership to communicate progress, issues, and execution status.
• Engage in troubleshooting activities and verification of system requirements to ensure compliance and functionality.
