Job summary

Capital One seeks an experienced Ontology Engineer to develop, implement, and govern enterprise ontologies and data models, improving discovery and analytics.

You will collaborate across Finance, Enterprise partners, Technology, Product, and ML to embed semantic tech into products and services. Strong knowledge of W3C standards and tools like Protégé and Stardog is required.

You will mentor others, define standards, and help harmonize data across domains at Capital One.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in information science, CS, engineering, or related fields.
• 3+ years in metadata, ontology, or semantics-focused roles or a related masters.
• Experience with W3C standards: JSON, XML, RDF, RDFS, OWL, SKOS.
• Experience with ontology tools: Protégé, TopQuadrant, PoolParty, Stardog, AnzoGraph, Neptune, Data.World.
• Proficient in SQL and SPARQL; strong data modeling capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise ontologies and data models.
• Collaborate with Finance and Enterprise partners on domain ontologies.
• Champion creation and adoption of standardized data practices.
• Partner across Tech, Product, ML to embed semantic tech in products.
• Govern ontologies with stakeholders to improve discovery and development.
• Contribute to data integration and mapping to harmonize data with ontologies.
• Advocate the value of ontologies, semantics, and standardization across the business.
• Analyze knowledge organization strategies using ML and semantic tools.
• Stay aware of industry developments in ontology use and data modeling.
• Develop standards, guidelines, and direction for ontology and data standardization.
