Job summary
FNS, Inc. is seeking an experienced Ocean Freight Operations Manager to oversee end-to-end import/export shipments from our Chicago area operations.
You will lead staff, coordinate with carriers, and ensure on-time delivery while optimizing costs and service quality. The ideal candidate has 7+ years in ocean freight, a bachelor’s in logistics or related field, supervisory experience, and strong ERP/MS Office proficiency; bilingual in English and Korean preferred.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in ocean freight operations, freight forwarding, or international logistics.
- Supervisory or management experience required.
- Bilingual in English and Korean.
- Proficiency in ERP platforms and MS Office.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end ocean freight operations for import and export shipments.
- Develop and maintain relationships with ocean carriers and trucking companies.
- Negotiate freight rates, contracts, and service agreements to optimize cost and service quality.
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations and company policies.
- Monitor shipment schedules, transit times, and cargo status; proactively resolve delays, disruptions, and claims.
- Oversee documentation accuracy, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and customs filings.
- Lead, train, and supervise ocean freight staff; set performance goals and conduct evaluations.
- Analyze KPIs such as on-time delivery, detention/demurrage, and carrier performance.
- Collaborate with internal teams to achieve business objectives.
- Manage budgets and control costs related to ocean freight operations.
- Identify process improvements and implement best practices to increase efficiency and service reliability.
