Job summary

STR is seeking a Senior Mechanical / Ocean Engineer to develop technical solutions for complex distributed uncrewed undersea systems—including vehicles, buoys, and ocean bottom nodes. You will own the detailed engineering: turning concepts into designs, prototypes, and fielded systems through analysis, fabrication, integration, and testing.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to realize novel system concepts for ISR/C‑ISR missions.

Qualifications

BS with 5+ years, MS with 3+ years, or PhD in mechanical/ocean domains.
Experience with undersea or harsh-environment systems is preferred.
Analytical modeling and simulation, prototyping and field testing.

Responsibilities

Develop mechanical and ocean engineering solutions for distributed uncrewed undersea systems from concept to test.
Lead technical tasks within small, multi-disciplinary teams across electrical, acoustics, embedded systems, and power engineers.
Design and analyze pressure vessels, hydrodynamics, thermal management, and structural components.
Model, analyze, and simulate electro-mechanical, fluid, and thermal systems to inform design decisions.
Contribute to acoustic hardware prototypes and ensure reliability and manufacturability.
Collaborate to model and simulate undersea acoustic systems across scales and theaters.
Perform peer reviews and propose next steps for ongoing R&D.
Support best practices for designing, producing, integrating, and testing distributed uUV systems.
Prepare technical reports, briefings, proposals, and customer presentations.
