Job summary

STR is seeking a Senior Mechanical / Ocean Engineer in the United States to develop solutions for complex distributed undersea systems, including vehicles, buoys, and seabed nodes. You will own detailed engineering from concept to fielded systems, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, acoustics, software, and systems teams.

Qualifications

• BS with 5+ years of relevant experience
• MS with 3+ years of relevant experience
• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Physics, or related field

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and analysis of undersea platforms and components.
• Coordinate with electrical, acoustics, embedded systems to balance system tradeoffs.
• Design pressure vessels, hydrodynamic forms, and thermal/power packaging for deep-water use.
• Model and simulate electro-mechanical, fluid, and thermal systems.
• Support acoustic hardware prototypes ensuring manufacturability and reliability.
• Review designs with peers and contribute to reports and proposals.
• Assist in best practices for designing, producing, testing distributed undersea systems.
• Prepare technical communications for customers and sponsors.
