Job summary

STR's Ocean Technology and Acoustic Systems Group seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design, fabricate, integrate, and test subsystems for unmanned undersea platforms, including payloads and vehicles. The role requires collaboration across design, simulation, fabrication, and testing in harsh maritime environments and at-sea demonstrations.

Ideal candidates hold a BS with 2+ years or an MS in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Physics, or related fields, and are familiar with COMSOL, ANSYS,

Qualifications

  • BS with 2+ years relevant experience or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
  • Experience in design, modeling, fabrication, integration and validation of mechanical systems for undersea payloads and vehicles.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM tools: COMSOL, ANSYS, SolidWorks.
  • Proficiency in thermal modeling, FEA, CFD, or other multi-physics modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical deployable payloads and vehicles for harsh maritime environments while coordinating with design, fabrication and test teams.
  • Collaborate in all stages of undersea systems testing, including test plans, test infrastructure, and at-sea support to mature technology.
  • Provide regular communication with leadership and stakeholders through reports and presentations for reviews.
