Job summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer for Undersea Systems at STR in Woburn, MA leads development of rugged, distributed uncrewed undersea platforms, including vehicles, buoys and seabed nodes. You will transform concepts into robust designs through analysis, prototyping, integration and testing.

Collaborating with mechanical, electrical, acoustics and software teams, you will drive design decisions, perform peer reviews, and contribute to reports and proposals for ISR and C‑ISR missions.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in Mechanical/Ocean Engineering or related field.
• Experience with analytical modeling and simulation (FEA/CFD).
• Hands-on prototyping, fabrication, and testing.
• U.S. citizenship and active security clearance eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical and ocean engineering solutions for distributed undersea systems.
• Lead technical tasks within multi-disciplinary teams.
• Design and analyze pressure vessels, hydrodynamics, thermal management, and packaging.
• Model, analyze, and simulate electro-mechanical, fluid, and thermal systems.
• Contribute to technical communications and reports.
