Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology is building an advanced observability platform to support a Fortune-6 scale environment across on-prem, hybrid, and public clouds. The Senior Observability Platform Engineer will design, build, and operate large-scale services using Go, Python, and Java while advancing OpenTelemetry adoption and standards enterprise-wide.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
3+ years of observability practices (SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, alerting, incident management).
3+ years building production-grade backend services in Go and/or Java.
3+ years implementing and operating OpenTelemetry (OTLP, conventions, instrumentation).
3+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
3+ years with public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure).
2+ years designing and scaling distributed data pipelines.
2+ years Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
2+ years with Helmcharts, Kustomize.
2+ years with Grafana OSS or similar observability backends (Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Mimir).
2+ years with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).

Responsibilities

Develop custom software to drive the observability platform using Java Spring Boot, Python, Go-lang, etc.
Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java (Spring Boot).
Support and lead OpenTelemetry adoption across the enterprise (client libraries, conventions, instrumentation).
Design and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces) for performance and cost efficiency.
Develop self-service observability capabilities for onboarding and troubleshooting.
Implement end-to-end monitoring, define SLOs, health checks, and alerting.
Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to set reliability standards and incident response.
Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident reviews.
Automate workflows and tooling with CI/CD enhancements and platform automation.
Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
Produce and maintain technical docs, standards, and best practices.
Engage with teams to gather requirements, influence roadmap, and deliver improvements.
Provide technical leadership through design reviews and cross-team collaboration.
