Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Newport News, VA, is seeking a senior Structural Engineer to join a nuclear power-focused team. Hybrid work model with on-site and remote collaboration across disciplines. Lead design work, review calculations, and guide junior staff on a variety of nuclear facility projects.

The ideal candidate has a Civil Engineering degree with structural emphasis, 5+ years’ experience, and proficiency in major structural analysis software. PE/SE license preferred; travel may be required.

Qualifications

BS degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Five or more years of experience on design and analysis of structures as part of a project team.
Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
Familiarity with IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI design codes and standards.
Proficiency with MS Office applications and strong written/verbal communication.

Responsibilities

Lead engineering team in design and analysis of structures for nuclear facilities.
Prepare and review design calculations, develop specifications, and support drawing development.
Perform structural analysis of steel frames, concrete members, supports, and foundations.
Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines and guide less experienced staff.
Travel to client/vendor offices or plant sites for design reviews and field coordination.
