Job summary

Valar Atomics is building a premier IC&E Engineering team to develop and commission control system software for nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities. You will lead PLC/DCS programming, SCADA/HMI development, batch control, alarm management, and safety logic, while mentoring junior engineers and guiding technical direction.

You will collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure robust, secure, and scalable automation solutions, aligning with ISA standards and nuclear quality

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer, or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of controls software, PLC programming, or SCADA development experience in process industries.
• Hands-on PLC programming experience with major platforms using IEC 61131‑3 languages.
• Hands-on experience developing or maintaining SCADA applications on major platforms.
• Demonstrated experience establishing HMI design standards to ISA‑101/HPHMI.
• Experience developing batch control sequences in ISA‑88.
• Experience configuring alarm management systems (ISA‑18.2).
• Experience configuring plant historian systems and dashboards.
• Familiarity with ISA‑95 enterprise‑control integration concepts.
• Working knowledge of OPC‑UA, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, or Modbus.
• Ability to read P&IDs, loop diagrams, and I/O lists.
• Experience with software version control and change control practices.
• Experience developing and testing safety logic under IEC 61511.

Responsibilities

• Develop PLC and DCS programs using platforms like Rockwell, Siemens, Emerson, or equivalent; languages per IEC 61131‑3.
• Develop and configure SCADA apps (Ignition, FactoryTalk, AVEVA, WinCC).
• Design HMI displays at local and supervisory levels per ISA‑101/HPHMI.
• Develop ISA‑88 batch control software and supervisory batch layer.
• Configure ISA‑18.2 alarm systems; manage KPI reporting.
• Program safety logic on SIS platforms per IEC 61511.
• Configure historian systems and build dashboards/reports.
• Implement ISA‑95 enterprise-control integration with REST APIs and MES/ERP/LIMS.
• Configure protocols (OPC-UA, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus).
• Write SQL queries and Python scripts for data processing and test automation.
• Apply software CM, version control, change control, backups, disaster recovery.
• Define OT network architecture with IEC 62443 / NIST approaches.
• Prepare FAT/SAT/commissioning test plans and maintain docs.
• Diagnose and resolve control system faults; document actions.
• Coordinate I/O assignment with I&C hardware engineers.
• Own control software standards and templates across projects.
• Provide technical direction to contractors and mentor engineers.
