Job summary

Valar Atomics is seeking a Senior Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer to design, develop, commission, and maintain control systems for nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities. The role spans PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, ISA-88 batch control, SIS and historian integration, with senior leadership responsibilities.

You will mentor junior engineers, oversee contractor work, and ensure compliance with nuclear quality requirements while delivering reliable, safe control systems across the full stack.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer, or Systems Engineering.
• 5+ years of I&C or controls experience in process industries.
• Hands-on PLC programming experience on major platforms using IEC 61131-3 languages.
• Experience developing SCADA applications on major platforms (Ignition, FactoryTalk, AVEVA, WinCC).
• Experience developing batch control sequences in accordance with ISA-88.
• Familiarity with ISA-95 enterprise-control integration concepts.
• Experience commissioning instrumentation and tuning regulatory control loops.
• Ability to read P&IDs, electrical drawings, and instrument data sheets.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PLC and DCS programs on major platforms; ladder logic,ST, FBD per IEC 61131-3.
• Develop and configure SCADA applications; build tag databases and alarms.
• Design HMI displays for local and supervisory levels per ISA-101 and HP HMIs.
• Configure ISA-88 batch control, phase logic, and recipe management; monitor progress.
• Configure and manage alarm systems per ISA-18.2; monitor KPI.
• Configure safety instrumented functions (SIS) on SIS platforms per IEC 61511.
• Support OT network cybersecurity per IEC 62443 / NIST 800-82.
• Prepare FAT/SAT/commissioning plans; perform loop checks and calibration.
