Job summary

The Senior Accountant for the Texas Access to Justice Foundation performs a broad range of professional accounting functions, including maintaining financial records, preparing and analyzing financial reports, and supporting compliance with applicable accounting standards and organizational policies.

Working with a high degree of independence, the position applies sound judgment and analysis to provide accuracy of financial information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual-based accounting.
• Experience managing full-cycle accounting responsibilities independently.
• Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, prepare, review, and record financial transactions to ensure accuracy, proper coding, and compliance with GAAP and GASB.
• Manage the monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, and deferrals.
• Maintain the general ledger and sub-ledgers, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Prepare grant revenues and expenses by program; assist time tracking and cost allocation for grant reimbursement.
• Account for investment activity, lease accounting, and related journal entries.
• Conduct annual financial desk reviews of grantees and assess compliance with grant requirements.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable, cash receipts, and bank reconciliations.
• Support audit preparation and external reporting requirements.
