Job summary

AT&T in McLean, Virginia is seeking a Network Tools Engineer to ensure that network monitoring, management, and diagnostic tools are functioning efficiently to support the health and performance of the network. This role requires office presence of a minimum of 5 days per week and is located at customer sites.

Responsibilities include configuring, upgrading, and patching tools, monitoring performance, managing alerts, and maintaining an up-to-date inventory of network assets.

Qualifications

• 12 years of applicable experience required.
• Strong understanding of network protocols, architecture, and technologies.
• Hands-on experience with network troubleshooting and performance optimization.
• Proficiency with monitoring and management tools such as OpenText NOM, Nagios, PRTG, Wireshark.
• Proficiency in scripting languages for automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Familiarity with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
• Ability to create and maintain network documentation.
• Relevant certifications such as CCNA or CompTIA Network+.

Responsibilities

• Configure, upgrade, and patch network monitoring and management tools.
• Monitor network performance, analyze traffic, and manage alerts for anomalies.
• Set up and manage alerts to ensure timely responses.
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory of network hardware and licenses.
• Ensure real-time accuracy of inventory changes.
• Collaborate with network engineers and IT teams to meet inventory needs.
• Monitor and fine-tune performance; analyze usage and issues.
• Create, update and comply with SOPs and documentation.
