Job summary

Vaco is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join an enterprise technology team focused on building, maintaining, and modernizing critical business applications in Birmingham, AL. The role emphasizes understanding business impact, not just coding, and involves modernizing the tech stack with Linux-based containers and cloud-native approaches.

You will design, develop, and modernize enterprise apps, own parts of the SDLC, and collaborate with business stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Strong professional experience with C# and the .NET ecosystem.
• Experience across .NET Framework and modern .NET.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented design and SOLID principles.
• Strong SQL Server experience including design, queries, and performance tuning.
• Experience with Docker and containerization.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and orchestration platforms.
• Comfortable in Linux environments and production operations.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and production deployments.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.

Responsibilities

• Design and modernize enterprise applications using C# and .NET.
• Own significant portions of the software development lifecycle from requirements to deployment.
• Work with SQL Server data layers including schema design and performance optimization.
• Containerize .NET applications using Docker and orchestrate with Kubernetes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Identify risks and opportunities for improvement before development begins.
• Document technical decisions and system behavior for long-term maintainability.
