Job summary

The City of Arlington is seeking a Construction Specialist to monitor and direct the activities of architects, consultants and contractors who design and construct major municipal building projects. This role supports the Construction Manager on large projects and ensures progress aligns with plans and city requirements.

Responsibilities include field observations, preparing reports, resolving design and construction conflicts, reviewing payment applications, change orders, and staying current

Qualifications

• Knowledge of building codes, construction specifications, and codes-related practices.
• Familiarity with construction practices, materials, and systems.
• Understanding architectural theory, design, graphics, and drafting.
• Experience with city staff, architects, engineers and contractors on municipal projects.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and direct activities of architects, consultants and contractors on major municipal projects.
• Observe construction to ensure compliance; prepare field reports and address issues with timely progress.
• Resolve design and construction conflicts with stakeholders to facilitate progress.
• Review contractors’ payment applications and assist with change orders and allowances.
