Lab37 Robotics in Pittsburgh is seeking a Senior Motor Controls Engineer to define how robotic mechanisms move and to ensure reliable production-ready implementations. You will lead motor/actuation decisions, own the controls implementation, and collaborate across disciplines to validate performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Hands-on BLDC/PMSM and stepper control experience.
• Strong fundamentals: motor physics, commutation, feedback, and loop tuning.
• Embedded C/C++ development for motor-control hardware.
• Ability to use motion data and oscilloscopes to test hypotheses.
• Independent engineering judgment and collaborative decision making.

Responsabilités

• Partner with ME, EE, and test engineers to select motor/drive options and implement cost-effective solutions.
• Develop, integrate, and tune BLDC/PMSM and stepper control loops and select drives or custom firmware.
• Evaluate control strategies considering performance, cost, and reliability.
• Run instrumented experiments and contribute control-focused measurements for performance validation.
• Diagnose issues across controls, electronics, firmware, and mechanics and drive fixes.
• Create calibration tools, configurations, telemetry, and documentation for easier commissioning.
