Job summary

Atlassian is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Systems Engineer for the Search Platform team. You will own the design, development, and production deployment of machine learning systems powering search across Jira, Confluence, and Rovo.

Design scalable retrieval pipelines, vector indexing, and embedding-based search. Lead end-to-end ML components from experimentation to production rollout across regions and tenants with robust monitoring and cost discipline.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing, developing, and deploying ML systems.
• Experience with retrieval, embedding-based search, and ML serving infrastructure.
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Own design and production deployment of ML systems powering search experiences across Atlassian products.
• Design scalable search serving infrastructure, including vector indexing and embedding-based search.
• Build and maintain production ML models with monitoring and robust evaluation.
• Collaborate with Rovo and AI platform teams to evolve search infrastructure for AI agents.
• Drive observability, incident response, and FinOps cost discipline for ML serving fleets.
