Job summary

Atlassian is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our Search & Intelligence group in the United States. You will lead end-to-end ML solutions across problem definition, data exploration, model development, evaluation, deployment, and optimization.

You will collaborate with product, software, data science, and analytics teams to deliver scalable AI capabilities that power Atlassian products worldwide.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in CS/ML/DS or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional ML/data science production experience.
• Strong Python and at least one production language (Java/Kotlin/TypeScript).
• Solid SQL and Spark or equivalent big data processing tech.
• Experience designing training, evaluation, deployment, and scaling of ML models.
• Proven ability to ship reliable production software.
• Experience with cloud environments such as AWS or Databricks.
• Experience with evaluation metrics, experimentation, and error analysis.
• Strong collaboration across product, engineering, analytics, and data science.
• Excellent communication and Agile mindset.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of ML algorithms for production.
• Own ML projects from concept through deployment and monitoring.
• Develop scalable data and modeling approaches for large datasets.
• Design architectures meeting quality, latency, scale, and cost targets.
• Build ML solutions for information retrieval, ranking, NLP, and LLMs.
• Run rigorous experiments, offline/online evaluations, and analyses.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, analytics, and platform teams.
• Translate research into reliable, maintainable systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve model performance and efficiency.
• Communicate decisions and results clearly to varied audiences.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical strategy.
