People Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer 1 to join our AI/ML Engineering Platform team. You will design scalable backend systems, build ML pipelines, and develop APIs using FastAPI. The role collaborates with Data Science, PMs, and Platform teams to deliver ML-driven features.

Hybrid role with in-office days in multiple cities and allowance for up to 2 remote days per week. Strong emphasis on observability, performance, and scalable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 6+ years building scalable backend systems and services.
• 5+ years with Python, Node.js, and TypeScript.
• Experience with Kafka for real-time pipelines.
• Experience with Elasticsearch for relevance and search.
• Cloud platforms: AWS or GCP; Docker and Kubernetes.
• RESTful and GraphQL API design and security best practices.
• Experience with ML pipelines and Vertex AI Pipelines is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable distributed systems for AI/ML workflows.
• Develop data pipelines for feature generation, model training, and analytics.
• Implement model serving with KServe and FastAPI APIs.
• Build observability and monitor model performance and data quality.
• Collaborate with data scientists, PMs, and platform teams on ML features.
• Investigate production issues and improve reliability and performance.
• Create documentation for pipelines, models, APIs, and processes.
• Develop internal tools and dashboards for data processing visibility.
