Job summary

Etsy, a global marketplace, is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join the Recommendation Ranking team. You will develop models to understand buyers, personalize, and rank recommendations across Etsy.com and the app, working with software engineers to improve experiences for 90+ million buyers.

The role involves building scalable ML systems in Python/Scala using PyTorch or TensorFlow, deploying models, running experiments, and shaping the future technical direction.

Qualifications

• Proven experience applying ML to real-world problems in ranking, search, or recommendations.
• Strong background in deep learning, RL, and multi-modal learning.
• Experience training, deploying, monitoring, and iterating production ML systems.

Responsibilities

• Set the future technical direction of Etsy’s recommendation system with engineers and product teams.
• Push state-of-the-art ML advances to improve buyer and seller experiences.
• Prototype, optimize, and productionize large-scale ML models.
• Conduct experiments (A/B tests) to validate model improvements.
• Collaborate to expand ML capabilities across ranking, diversity, and lifecycle prediction.
