Job summary

Etsy, Inc. seeks a Director of Engineering, Machine Learning to lead Recommendations, owning end-to-end technical strategy for personalized onsite-discovery across Etsy surfaces.

You will manage ML engineers, scientists, and system engineers across retrieval, ranking, and systems sub-teams, shaping a future with LLM-powered foresight and generative experiences. You will report to the VP of Engineering for Search, Recommendations, and Ads, and partner with product, UX, and cross-functional ML

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive experience in ML engineering.
• Proven track record shipping large-scale recommender, retrieval, or ranking systems into production.
• Ability to lead cross-functional technical programs and align with product leadership.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the multi-year product and technical roadmap for Recommendations ML.
• Lead and grow a team of ML engineers, applied scientists, and platform engineers.
• Partner with product, UX, and cross-functional ML teams to align on end-to-end buyer experience and shared infrastructure investments.
• Drive architectural evolution toward generative and LLM-integrated recommendation architectures.
