Torc Robotics is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to advance BEV-based perception models and multi-modal fusion for autonomous trucks. You will lead architecture, training, and evaluation efforts, mentoring engineers while staying at the forefront of ML research.

The role supports hybrid work in Ann Arbor, MI or nationwide remote options, with a focus on robust, scalable perception solutions for real-world deployment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in deep learning for perception, 3D vision, or autonomous systems.
• MS/PhD in CS/EE/Robotics or equivalent experience.
• BEV modeling, 3D scene understanding, and multi-view fusion expertise.
• Strong multi-modal sensor fusion background with camera and LiDAR.
• Proficiency in Python and DL frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience with large-scale data pipelines and distributed training.
• Demonstrated leadership in ML model innovation and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Lead BEV-based perception model development and define roadmaps.
• Design multi-modal architectures fusing camera, LiDAR, radar, and HD maps.
• Develop BEV transformers or voxel-based encoders for perception.
• Own large-scale training workflows including data sampling and augmentation.
• Improve robustness for low-visibility, occlusions, and diverse scenes.
• Establish evaluation frameworks for geometry accuracy and temporal stability.
• Collaborate with calibration, mapping, and fusion teams for cohesive interfaces.
• Mentor ML engineers and promote best practices in experiments and code quality.
• Explore self-supervised learning, large-scale pretraining, and foundation models.
