Job summary

Torc Robotics, Inc. seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a perception-focused ML team building active sensor-based perception for autonomous trucks. You will drive people leadership, technical direction, and project execution to deliver production-grade ML systems.

You will guide roadmap planning, cross-functional collaboration, and risk management while staying hands-on enough to influence model training, evaluation, and deployment in a complex AV stack.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of professional experience or a master's degree with 4+ years of experience.
• 2+ years of experience leading and managing engineers, including coaching and career development.
• Strong technical foundation in ML and computer vision, including 3D geometry and perception failure modes.
• Experience deploying production ML systems for autonomous driving or robotics.
• Experience with multitask learning, object detection, road and lane detection, or 3D occupancy estimation.
• Understanding lidar sensing and its impact on perception, including FMCW lidar and time synchronization.
• Proficiency in Python and PyTorch, with production C++ experience.
• Experience deploying models with TensorRT and optimizing for latency, memory, and power.
• Strong understanding of embedded computing platforms for real-time perception.
• Ability to define roadmaps, manage milestones, and coordinate cross-functional work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and leadership audiences.
• PhD in related fields is a plus.
• Publications, patents, or open-source contributions in ML/CV/robotics are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead a machine learning team developing active sensor-based perception for autonomous trucks.
• Own team roadmap, prioritization, and delivery with realistic milestones.
• Collaborate with sensor hardware, data, infrastructure, and systems teams; report to senior leadership.
