Job summary

Muon Space is seeking a Staff Mission Lead Systems Engineer to drive end-to-end mission design from study to on-orbit operations. You will partner with the Mission Architecture team, own technical baselines, and serve as the primary technical authority for designated missions across Gov and commercial customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and 10+ years in complex system/mission architecture for government or demanding customers.
  • Experience as chief engineer or lead systems engineer on a complex design for USG/DoD/IC or commercial customers.
  • Experience with USG/IC acquisition programs and space system development standards.
  • Extensive experience in system modeling, analysis, and simulations.
  • Proven track record delivering complex systems and leading cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong ability to manage requirements across a multi-disciplinary project.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and coordination skills.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance is required or active eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Mission Architecture to develop concepts and shape baselines for missions.
  • Maintain mission-level models—architecture, requirements, interfaces, behavior.
  • Serve as the technical authority, leading conceptualization, design, and development.
  • Tailor Muon design processes to program needs and improve across missions.
  • Translate customer objectives into verifiable technical requirements.
  • Interface with customers, partners, and internal teams on technical matters.
  • Manage requirements traceability, verification, and validation.
  • Define CONOPS and manage subsystem budgets (power, data, mass, pointing).
  • Identify and mitigate risks and coordinate design changes across disciplines.
  • Lead design, test readiness, and flight readiness reviews.
  • Monitor on-orbit performance and data pipelines for mission success.
  • Collaborate across systems engineering, hardware, software, and operations teams.
