Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Maryland is seeking a Senior Weapon Systems Engineer to help conceive, assess, and improve guided missile systems through MBSE and rigorous simulations. You will evaluate mission effectiveness, identify limiting factors, develop requirements, and present findings to sponsors such as the U.S.

Navy and MDA. The role includes mentoring junior staff and contributing to national defense.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, math, or physics.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in analysis and design of interceptors or with high-fidelity simulations.
  • Experience with MBSE and SysML tools; familiarity with MBSE constructs.
  • Experience with weapon-system simulations (AFSIM/EADSIM or similar).
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to interface with sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret and Top Secret clearances; U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, assess, and improve guided missile systems via MBSE and simulations.
  • Evaluate mission effectiveness of interceptor systems in theater and homeland defense.
  • Identify limiting factors and propose software/hardware enhancements.
  • Develop requirements and evaluation criteria for evolving interceptor designs.
  • Present findings to government sponsors such as Navy and MDA; mentor junior staff.
