Job summary

Stantec in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join our Energy & Resources team. You will develop and coordinate mechanical models and documents for mining projects, collaborating with engineers and project managers to deliver 3D and 2D designs for surface and underground facilities.

You will mentor junior designers, lead design reviews, and ensure adherence to drafting standards while coordinating with cross-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Industrial/mining experience required.
• Mining facilities design experience is a plus.
• BIM360/Autodesk Forma experience.
• Autodesk software proficiency: AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, Inventor, Navisworks (2021+).
• AVEVA experience is a plus.
• Point cloud experience a plus.
• Adhere to drafting standards and ensure design completeness.
• Follow revision progression and quality processes.
• Reading engineering drawings optional.
• Clear spoken and written communication.
• Teamwork oriented and collaborative.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Field walks may involve ladders and standing.
• MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Strong math skills for design work.

Responsibilities

• Produce complete design and documentation for mechanical deliverables.
• Deliver as an individual or as part of a team depending on project size.
• Mechanical deliverables: general arrangements, bulk handling equipment, piping, mining.
• Use knowledge of machines, engineering practices, math, materials to complete drawings.
• Work from schematics, sketches, and verbal instructions.
• Assist other designers with project deliverables.
• Report project progression to Lead Designers or Project Managers.
• Lead and mentor junior/intermediate designers.
• Provide material estimates to support Procurement and Estimating.
• Lead model and drawing review meetings with internal team and clients.
• Design and draft in 3D and 2D environments.
