Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Mine Waste Lead Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join the Reno, NV team. You will lead civil design for mine waste containment facilities and contribute to regional projects alongside a growing geotechnical team.

The role requires 7–10 years of experience, an engineering license, and strong skills in geotechnical analysis, client liaison, and technical writing. Travel and project leadership are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 7–10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and geotechnical design.
• Engineer license required.
• Experience on tailings management and heap leach facility design in the mining industry.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil design of mine waste containment and heap leach facilities, including layout, site selection, geotechnical/hydrologic analyses, and design drawings.
• Manage and execute geotechnical engineering projects, including field investigations, testing programs, data interpretation, and analyses.
• Direct and review complex geotechnical analyses (soil mechanics, stability, seepage, deposition modeling).
• Independently manage projects per client scopes and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget.
• Contribute to client relationships and business development activities.
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Support proposals and design work packages.
