Job summary

WSP USA seeks a Lead Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our US Mine Waste team, with offices in Tucson, AZ or nearby Tempe, AZ, Reno, NV or Elko, NV. You will lead civil design for mine waste containment and heap leach facilities, perform geotechnical analyses, and manage projects with a regional team.

The role requires a Civil/Geotechnical Engineering degree, 7–10 years of experience, and a PE license. You will mentor junior engineers, contribute to client development, and uphold safety and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil/geotechnical engineering or closely related field.
• 7–10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and geotechnical design.
• Engineer license required.
• Demonstrated experience with tailings management and heap leach facility design.
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
• Demonstrated client liaison and business development skills.
• Project management experience for small to mid-level projects, including scoping and tracking hours.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil design of mine waste containment and heap leach facilities including layout, site selection, and design drawings.
• Manage and execute geotechnical projects including site investigations and lab testing.
• Perform complex geotechnical analyses (stability, seepage, thermal modelling, run-out analyses).
• Independently manage projects and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget.
• Contribute to client relationships and business development.
• Lead multi-disciplinary project teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Maintain up-to-date geotechnical techniques and practices.
• Coordinate with engineers and planners on projects with various authorities.
