Encova Insurance is seeking a Middle Market Underwriter in Michigan to evaluate, price, and manage commercial lines risks within designated authority. The role emphasizes profitable retention and growth through thorough risk analysis and effective agent collaboration.

You will apply underwriting guidelines, support agents, and help drive growth while maintaining superior customer service and timely responses.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience in package lines and/or workers' compensation.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; significant underwriting experience may substitute.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work with producers and agents.
• Knowledge of underwriting laws, rules, and policy administration; able to apply guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Determine acceptability, pricing, profitability for new and existing business.
• Perform risk analysis using Encova, ISO, NCCI guidelines.
• Identify and initiate new business opportunities within current book and agencies.
• Gather information to evaluate risk and set appropriate premiums.
• Communicate underwriting decisions and terms to agents; negotiate when needed.
• Mentor entry-level underwriters and trainees to drive profitability and service standards.
