Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States (Maryland) seeks a junior software engineer to help develop microservices within our data platform. You will work under senior engineers on distributed services and contribute to code quality through tests and reviews.

Responsibilities include implementing services, writing unit and integration tests, participating in Agile ceremonies, and learning modern engineering practices including AI-assisted tools. This is an on-site role in Gaithersburg area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field with 0–2 years of experience.
• Proficiency in Java or C++.
• Understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
• Experience with Git.
• Basic understanding of microservices concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop microservices under guidance of senior developers.
• Write unit tests and participate in test-driven development.
• Participate in code reviews.
• Engage in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and PI planning.
• Utilize CI/CD pipelines to build, test, and deploy software.
• Integrate with RESTful APIs and event-driven messaging systems.
• Collaborate with testers, systems engineers, and DevOps.
• Learn and navigate large, complex codebases spanning multiple services and repositories.
• Document code, design decisions, and technical approaches.
• Support troubleshooting and debugging during integration and testing phases.
• Develop and maintain services within distributed microservice architectures.
• Write automated unit, integration, and contract tests.
• Gain understanding of legacy ATC system functionality to support modernization into new service implementations.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices.
