Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Elkridge, MD seeks a Principal/Sr. Principal Microelectronics Semiconductor Manufacturing Engineer to join the Manufacturing Operations Engineering Team on a 2nd shift.

The role focuses on designing and refining SMT manufacturing processes in a high‑speed, highly automated environment. The successful candidate will lead process development, equipment support, and root cause analysis while collaborating with cross‑functional teams and applying Lean Six Sigma to improve yields

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related STEM field with 5+ years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with 3+ years; or 1 year of experience for a PhD in mechanical engineering or related STEM field.
• Experience reading and interpreting specifications, parts list, and engineering drawings
• Ability to work 2nd Shift and obtain/maintain security clearance; U.S. Citizenship

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement manufacturing processes related to SMT routing and manufacturing
• Troubleshoot and support complex manufacturing equipment
• Compile data and analyze manufacturing process for process control
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop and implement process improvements and solutions
• Support operators and technicians through troubleshooting and training
• Monitor product yields and maintain program yield targets
• Interface with manufacturing management, technicians, production engineers, design engineers, system engineers, program management and program support teams
