Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist to perform routine and complex analyses on clinical specimens, ensuring accuracy and quality. The role includes instrument operation, calibration, and troubleshooting, with opportunities to mentor staff and participate in education.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of clinical lab experience and ASCP certification within a year of hire; supervisory duties may be required in absence of management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in ASCP eligible program or HEW exam completed.
• Ongoing education to maintain certification requirements.
• MLS/MT or ASCP categorical/specialty certification within 1 year of hire.
• AHN staff previously employed as Medical Technologists exempt if prior to 2022-06-01.
• 3–5 years of clinical laboratory experience.
• Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and complex laboratory analyses on clinical specimens.
• Verifies accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and linearity of tests.
• Operates, calibrates, and maintains instrumentation; troubleshoots QC issues.
• Serves as a consultant to laboratory staff and health care providers.
• Participates in continuing education for professional growth.
• May collect/process patient specimens per policies and timelines.
• May mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy, and lab processor staff.
• Communicates needs to manager/supervisor; ensures efficient operations.
• Assumes supervisory duties in absence of supervisor.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
