Job summary

The University of Rochester, Brighton, NY, is seeking an experienced Medical Coder to translate clinical documentation into accurate CPT/ICD-10-CM/HCPCS codes. The role supports Health Information Management and coding integrity across departments in a fully on-site setting.

You will review documentation, abstract data, and respond to internal coding requests while ensuring compliance with coding guidelines. RHIA/RHIT/CCS or CPC certifications are preferred. 40-hour workweek with day shift.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with 3 years of Medical Coder experience.
• Associate's degree preferred.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Functions as an advanced coder in abstraction and analysis of medical documentation and assigns appropriate procedural terminology and medical codes.
• Analyzes, enters and manipulates database. Responds to internal requests for medical information.
• May check the work of lower level Medical Coding staff and/or assign multi-specialty departmental coding.
