University of Rochester is seeking a Health Information Management coder to review diagnoses and procedure codes, ensure accurate data for professional payments, and generate reports for leadership. The role supports coding quality and timely payment while operating within established workflows and collaborating with internal and external partners.

The position requires a high school diploma with limited experience and preferred AHIMA/CPC certifications.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS preferred.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy preferred.

Responsabilités

• Reviews system edits and assigns appropriate codes to ensure quality healthcare data and accurate professional payments.
• Prepares reports for designated leader(s).
• Uses knowledge of coding systems and system logic to review codes and assign codes per workflow.
• Completes system edit reviews to correct before transmittal.
• Ensures work queue and responsibilities are handled within guidelines and timeframes.
• Troubleshoots problems that prevent claims from being released.
• Identifies cause of edits and resolves issue by reviewing patient encounters.
• Consults with internal customers and external vendors for clarity when documentation is inconsistent or incomplete.
• Prepares reports for designated leader to document recurring problems and sources of reimbursement delays.
• Keeps leadership informed to resolve invoice payment delays.
• Provides Providers and staff with coding information as needed.
• Responds to coding information requests and inquiries from various sources.
• Other duties as assigned.

Medical terminology

Certification preferred: RHIA RHIT CCS

Formation

High School diploma or equivalent
