Job summary

Optum, a part of UnitedHealth Group, is hiring a Senior Medical Coder for remote nationwide work. The role requires coding certification (AAPC/AHIMA) and 3+ years of experience, with strong ICD-10-CM and CPT knowledge. You will code, query, and support the revenue cycle from anywhere in the U.S.

Schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, with opportunities to mentor others and improve coding quality across documentation and denials. Epic experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA: CPC, CPC-H, CPC-P, RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, etc.
• 3+ years of coding experience.
• Advanced ICD-10-CM and CPT knowledge; modifiers & HCPCS guidelines.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and anatomy & physiology.
• Ability to meet deadlines and productivity standards.
• Epic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assign appropriate medical codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Review clinical documentation to identify applicable codes.
• Generate queries to clarify unclear documentation.
• Follow up with providers for timely responses.
• Use coding software and references to identify codes.
• Apply coding guidelines to determine final determinations.
• Contribute to revenue cycle by understanding coding impact.
• Educate and mentor others to improve coding quality.
• Manage multiple work demands to maintain productivity standards.
• Assist with audits and respond to questions.
