Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to support patient care in a fast-paced clinical setting. You will perform rooming tasks, vital signs, medication reconciliation, history taking, screenings, and assist providers with procedures.

The role requires completion of an accredited MA program and BLS, with potential PEARS training within a year in certain areas. A competency assessment at Atrium Health is required, plus clinical experience and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification is required.
• PEARS may be required within 1 year in select areas.
• Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment.
• Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care.
• Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).
• Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
• Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking.
• Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
• Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
• Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
• Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
• May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
• May serve as a role champion or on a committee.
• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
