Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a qualified Medical Assistant to support the care team with essential clinical and administrative tasks. You will help with rooming, vitals, histories, and screenings while maintaining patient safety and confidentiality with a high level of professionalism.

In this role you will assist providers, perform waived lab duties, and manage medication administration and vaccines. You’ll also handle scheduling, referrals, and communications to ensure smooth clinic operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or military training per DD214 in lieu of a formal MA program.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follow policies/procedures.
• Perform rooming/visit tasks: vitals, history, screenings, medication reconciliation, health maintenance, allergy review.
• Assist provider with procedures as ordered.
• Perform lab duties including venipuncture, specimen handling, and POCT per standing orders.
• Administer medications and vaccines safely per medication rights.
• Handle patient messaging, referrals, scheduling, and insurance authorizations; cross-train as needed.
• Maintain a clean, stocked work environment and ensure equipment readiness.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team; escalate appropriately.
