Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing seeks an experienced Automation Technician to support and mentor a team in Spartanburg, SC, focusing on automated welding cells, robotics, and troubleshooting. You will implement best practices, perform intermediate programming, and ensure safety compliance to keep equipment and processes running efficiently.

The role requires strong electrical/mechanical skills, PLC knowledge, and hands-on experience with robotics and weld systems, with a path toward advanced technician

Qualifications

• Must have reliable reading/writing skills in English and safety-focused performance.
• Experience with PLC systems and intermediate programming methods required.
• Industrial maintenance/repair background preferred; 3+ years in Weld/Automation tech roles.
• Mechatronics background or journeyman certification strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Mentor Automation Technician I-III and Weld Technicians.
• Execute duties of Automation Technician III.
• Follow all safety procedures and protocols while servicing or maintaining equipment.
• Demonstrate advanced troubleshooting using electrical/mechanical prints.
• Troubleshoot electrical components using schematics/prints (connect breakers, transformers, etc.).
• Wiring harnesses, drive systems, relays, boards, motors.
• Modify and perform intermediate programming tasks of robots in all applications.
• Perform basic offline programming using RoboCAD/Robot Studio.
• TCP verification and I/O simulation.
• Move creation/modification and zone setups.
• Intermediate weld troubleshooting across welding processes.
• Setup/troubleshoot Poke Yoke systems and applications.
