Job summary

Amazon Web Services in Herndon, VA seeks a Senior Product Design Mechanical Engineer with diesel generator experience to join the Electrical Products and Services team. You will design and develop resilient electrical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers, focusing on backup power generation and reliability.

You will collaborate with internal and external teams, define design requirements, validate through prototypes, and drive DFx and cost optimization.

Qualifications

• Experience designing diesel generators or related power distribution equipment.
• Strong mechanical design and system integration skills.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams across multiple locations.

Responsibilities

• Solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
• Lead new product design and qualification of electrical power distribution equipment, focusing on diesel generators.
• Coordinate with global suppliers to specify equipment and ensure supply chain resiliency.
• Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and governmental codes across countries.
• Validate design through prototypes, pre-production builds, and DFx/value engineering.
• Collaborate with field engineering for installation testing and performance validation.
• Support manufacturing activities on concurrent projects across multiple locations.
• Lead the product development team and coordinate with internal/external groups.
