Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is hiring a Sr. Product Design Engineer with diesel generator experience for our Electrical Products and Services team.

The Electrical Products and Services Team designs and develops resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products for AWS data centers, with emphasis on backup power generation and reliability. You will work with global suppliers to specify equipment, ensure compliance with UL/CSA/IEC and codes, and drive design from concept to production.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
• Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Experience developing solutions and executing plans on complex projects.
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.

Responsibilities

• Solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
• Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers with primary focus on backup power generation, specifically diesel generators, enclosures, and aftertreatment systems, as well as connecting dependencies with other electrical equipment.
• Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate equipment and components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.
• Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
• Validate design through prototype, pre-production and first-of-kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation.
• Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
• Ability to provide support for manufacturing activities for the new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
• Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
