Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Senior Mechanical Building Engineer—HVAC/Plumbing for Federal projects in Arlington, VA. The role focuses on leading HVAC and plumbing design across office, manufacturing, and server environments, reviewing drawings, specs, and submittals, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualified candidates bring strong leadership, communication, and a background in HVAC and piping design, with experience in energy modeling and life-cycle cost analyses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required
• Minimum of 11 years related work experience
• Active engineering registration/licensure where required
• Ability to obtain security clearance where applicable

Responsibilities

• Ensure project compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Create and maintain project schedules for mid-size to large projects.
• Develop HVAC and plumbing system deliverables (specs, drawings, calculations).
• Review work of less experienced engineers for quality and coordination.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, clients, and contractors.
• Mentor staff and share knowledge with the team.
• Oversee energy modeling and lifecycle cost analysis using IESVE/BLCC.
• Travel to meetings/sites as needed.
