Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is seeking Senior Mechanical Engineering Analysts to support engineering design, testing and certification of nuclear weapon systems using advanced FE analysis. You will develop models with in‑house codes, lead new workflows, and mentor analysts while collaborating with engineers and sponsors.

A DOE clearance, advanced degrees, and strong communication are required. The role may offer a hybrid schedule, with some days on site and some remote work.

Qualifications

  • Active DOE Q‑level clearance or Top Secret clearance at hire
  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Expert knowledge in mechanical behavior of materials, structural dynamics, and thermo‑mechanical analysis
  • Experience leading complex problems and conducting design reviews
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with ability to present to senior leaders
  • Willingness to travel

Responsibilities

  • Perform in‑depth finite element analysis to support design, modification, testing, and certification of weapons systems
  • Develop computational models using in‑house codes and advance simulation workflows
  • Lead development of new analysis workflows, standards, and procedures
  • Mentor staff and direct large technical projects or teams
  • Collaborate with analysts, code developers, engineers, and sponsors to resolve technical challenges
  • Contribute to verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification efforts
