Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) invites applications for a Nuclear Facility Mechanical Cognizant Systems Engineer. The role focuses on maintaining operational readiness of DOE Hazard Category 2 and 3 facility systems, supporting maintenance, modifications, and safety-related engineering in a multi-disciplinary team.

The position offers hybrid work flexibility after a probationary period, with potential for higher level responsibilities and R&D collaboration.

Qualifications

• Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent level of education and related technical experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical engineering standards (ASME, ANSI, NFPA).
• Experience with mechanical systems for buildings and facilities (piping, HVAC).
• Experience developing or reviewing calculations, drawings, and sketches; determining design criteria for modifications and upgrades.
• Strong communication and collaboration in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the integrity and configuration of mechanical systems to anticipate maintenance needs.
• Prepare system logs, surveillance reports, and briefing materials for management.
• Identify and procure spare parts and ensure inventory for maintenance.
• Provide engineering support for sustainment, repair, and modification of safety structures.
