Job summary

Southland Industries in Houston, TX seeks an experienced estimator to prepare budgets and detailed estimates for large projects. You will analyze drawings, perform material take-offs, and partner with senior staff to finalize FEBs while presenting to project executives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience, including managing people.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret cost data.
• Ability to read specifications and drawings and apply mathematical concepts.
• Proficiency in Excel and Word; knowledge of estimating software.

Responsibilities

• Prepares preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates and detail estimates for medium to large projects.
• Analyzes drawings and performs material take-offs; discusses issues with manager.
• Performs complex red-lining of documents.
• Partners with Lead/Chief Estimator to finalize FEB and presents bids to executives.
• Generates reports and transfers information into final review format.
• Participates in client interview meetings to discuss project.
• Trains and mentors less-experienced Estimators.
