Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an experienced estimator to prepare preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates, and detailed estimates for small to medium-size projects. You will analyze drawings, perform material take-offs, and price unit costs using specialized software.

Responsibilities include reviewing RFPs, coordinating with vendors, and presenting estimates to internal teams. A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering is preferred, with at least 3 years of estimating

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred, or equivalent combination of training/experience.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical construction estimating.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Solid analytical skills and ability to interpret cost data and systems.
• Ability to read and understand specifications and drawings.
• Knowledge of construction costs and principles; proficient with math and unit conversions.
• Proficient in Excel and Word; familiarity with estimating tools.

Responsibilities

• Prepare preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates, and detail estimates for small to medium-size projects.
• Perform material take-offs and price unit costs; analyze drawings using software.
• Red-line documents as needed and track quantity changes.
• Solicit subcontractor bids and coordinate with vendors for quotes.
• Review RFPs, Basis of Design, and drawings to define scope and contents of estimates.
• Present information and respond to questions from internal departments.
